Waiting for my Epson 4880

Postby Martin 095 on Thu Nov 05, 2009 2:07 am

Has anyone else on this site purchased a 4880 with the recent Epson rebate(s) and actually received their printer yet? I purchased mine back on September 29th and my dealer (Atlex) is telling me that Epson can't keep up with demand. I have been told I am next in line for the first available 4880 but I have been given at least four ship dates that have all come and gone - still no printer. I have never had a problem with Atlex before but this is ridiculous. My patience is wearing thin.
Best wishes,

Martin

Dear Martin:

I have deliberately postponed ordering a new Epson 4000 series printer until I see some show up in the inventories of the big retailers, such as B&H Photovideo, Adorama, Calulmet, CDW, etc. At this point, none of the big retailers have any of the 4880 printers in stock, nor can any of the retailers or Epson tell me when those printers will be in stock. So, I will continue to use my Epson Stylus Pro 4000 until new 4880 printers arrive at retail outlets. The lack of supply of these printers again raises the issue, at least for me, of whether Epson is going to produce an updated version of their 4000 series printer.

Best regards,

Roman :D

Roman,

FWIW, my 4880 shipped yesterday and would have been delivered today if I set up a delivery time. Oh well, I have waited this long, I can wait till next week. Good luck with your upgrade.
Best wishes,

Martin

i'm glad that atlex came through for you martin! i've bought my ink from them for years and while i have had the occasional screwup/mishap it has always been handled well. i did not want to think bad things of them for you...
i wanted to purchase a 3880 but had to wait til november to do so, thus missing the rebate, but more importantly missing the stock as well! as soon as i was ready there were none available and holiday printing needs are accumulating. i did manage to find one in stock locally which was being held for pickup later this month. the store let me have it (at a sale price -10% below b&h price - because they had a sale going on) because they think they will get more in very soon. the printer pipeline should begin flowing any day now.
i hope you have alot to do this weekend to distract you from thinking about the 4880 now that you know monday is your big day!!

I always buy my paper and inks from Atlex, their service has always been very good with me, their prices very reasonable and I have never had a complaint about them. I was surprised by the problems with 4880 because they didn't mention anything on their site about being out of stock (at least not initially) and I was more impatient than usual just because of the rebate deadlines. I have had problems in the past with rebate companies and while I am willing to forego $30, $850 off a 4880 is not so easy to overlook. But Atlex dealt with my impatience very well and the real problem was Epson. I am excited about my new printer but a little worried too - UPS has the box listed as 156 lbs!

PS For those of you who plan to order in the future from Atlex, please note the company name is aTlex, not aLtex. There is a computer company called Altex that apparently routinely gets emails from Atlex customers.
Best wishes,

Martin
